Between 2004 and 2012, Wittkielhof regularly became a film set. For filming of the well-known ZDF series „Der Landarzt“ (The Country Doctor), actors, crew and production stayed as guests on the farm.
We're still a little proud of that today. Wittkielhof wasn't chosen as a filming location by chance. The historic buildings, the rural character and the farm's special atmosphere fit perfectly with the world of the fictional village of Deekelsen.
Familiar Faces at Wittkielhof
„Der Landarzt“ is one of the best-known German TV series of its time, running to a total of 297 episodes across 22 seasons. It was filmed mainly in the Angeln and Schwansen region, including around Kappeln and the Schlei.
In the years when filming also took place at Wittkielhof, the title role was shaped above all by Walter Plathe as Dr. Uli Teschner and later Wayne Carpendale as Dr. Jan Bergmann. Other well-known cast members included Caroline Scholze, Heinz Reincke, Gerhard Olschewski and Franziska Troegner, among others.
Behind the camera, too, those in charge changed over the years. Directors during this production phase included Gunter Krää, Hans Werner, Wolfgang Münstermann, Peter Altmann and Dominikus Probst, among others.
Why Wittkielhof Suited the Series
The Schleswig-Holstein landscape was an important part of „Der Landarzt“'s success. Fields, historic farms, small villages and the proximity to the Schlei gave Deekelsen its unmistakable northern German character.
Wittkielhof still carries exactly that atmosphere today. Historic walls, old buildings and the sprawling parkland create a backdrop that feels authentic without needing to be staged.
From TV Filming Location to Wedding Venue
The film cameras have moved on. The place has stayed.
